Born in White Bear Lake, MN, Alice is now a longtime Chicago resident and gifted multi-genre singer/songwriter. A musician who dapples in jazz, blues, country and pop, she has the buoyancy to write music for all ages as well as to create tunes that sound both familiar and refreshingly unique. Family background and values feed her natural desire to perform and reach out to others. Maternal grandmother was a German cabaret composer and performer. Her maternal grandfather was an actor, a member of Bertolt Brecht’s Berliner Ensemble. Starting a not-for-profit organization Rock for Reading in 2003, Alice Peacock’s world is not just about music, but she believes strongly in giving back to society. Her desire to support literacy comes from a personal passion for reading.

Alice Peacock at pianoAlice Peacock: “I wrote “Into the Light” as a reminder to myself that as long as I continually turn to and search out the Light/Love/God, I would be on the right path to become the person that I was born to be. This song was originally written and performed on guitar but I like the sacred aspect that playing it on the piano brings.” To find out more about Alice Peacock (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nX9hXA7nxdc) or to purchase cds go to www.alicepeacock.com

Song Lyrics:I think it is great that you’re searching -seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to the windows of your mind. Try not to be too impatient. Go easy on yourself ’cause you got me in your corner if you need a little help.

Come into the light, yeah, be the one you’re born to be into the light. Wake up from your lonely sleep. The shadows can conceal what the heart wants to heal. Come into the light…

“Come into the Light,” a phrase repeated numerous times in this song, has powerful meaning during spring, a season of new life and at the end of the semester, a season of stepping back and reflecting on all that has been. Each of us should reflect on the gifts God has given us and how we use them to spread the Gospel message of the Resurrection. Acceptance of ourselves is one of the steps to becoming the person God wants us to be. Our faults and failures lead us continually to ask, seek, knock, and find. (Matthew 7:24ff)

As we move into the light of the Spirit, we are guided on the path of healing that comes to us each day we are tuned into God’s presence in our lives. Although the text is brief, the inspiration we receive is tremendous. We search for God in our daily happenings and He is revealed in unexpected ways. May you receive His graces as you connect with this song at this time of endings and new beginnings.

The instrumental backup accents the powerful text.

This song reminds me not to compromise my values. Sometimes it’s hard to defend ones beliefs in todays anything goes world. “Be the person your born to be.”

  3. Sister Julie Ann May 1, 2008 7:08 am

Leslie, you did well in reflecting on what the philosophical words “to be” really mean for someone born today in our “no tassle without a hassle” world. For me Alice Peacock‘s “Into the Light” is a song that beams vigor, movement, and renewed commitment to life . The lyrics enlighten fire, zeal, passion for God deep within and yet present everywhere. “Come into the Light” calls me to pay attention to inner thoughts and feelings and remember that God “is in our corner”. (BTW Leslie, I missed seeing you yesterday at UWSP.)

“Into the Light” is a beautiful song. It sounds good with both the piano and the guitar.
I really like the meaning of the song, about being who God created you to be. I think it is good to keep reminding yourself to be who you really are. In today’s world it is really easy to have too much going on, and not enough solitude and prayer. When that happens it is really easy to forget who you really are. Everybody needs time alone and time to pray, you cannot be who God created you to be if you do not know who God created you to be.

  5. Sister Julie Ann May 2, 2008 7:30 am

Yes, coming “into the Light” means needed solitude and intimacy with God. Angela, I appreciate your response. Balanced with respectful, trustworthy, warm relationships with others, our lives grow with a rootedness that breeds joy amid exam days, impromptu speeches, group projects, end of the semester celebrations, LIFE. I see that in you.

I loved the song, “Into the Light.” The lyrics talked about how in life, one has to search for their true purpose - what does God see you doing in your life? I think the lyrics show that everyone has that time in your life where a lot of question arise as to the future, but you have to trust God and know that he will take care of you. Be the person that you called to be.

  9. Tiffany May 15, 2008 7:42 am

It helped me to realize that this decision would not be easy, but God will always be there for me. The singer’s voice was amazing! The song “Into The Light” was very good. This song made me remember and realize that God will always be there for me. It shows that you can make mistakes and be wrong and God will still be there for you and love you. Not only was it pretty catchy, but it gives the listener hope as to what to look forward to in their lives. There are two main lines of the song that really stick with me: “You don’t have to be perfect.” and “Come Into the Light.”

To always be searching for the light of God - you will ensure that you will always be on the right path. Come in to the light, makes me think about how I’m going to use my gifts and talents and be the best person I can be. If we continue to pray and open our hearts and minds to what God has called us to do - we will be able to come in to the light.

Into the Light by Alice Peacock was very inspiring and questioning. The song asks: Are we seeking the light? Are we being patient with ourselves? Are we being the person that we were born to be? These questions are a life time challenge.

  36. Rebekah Conard May 20, 2008 7:52 am

I really like the song’s theme of searching within yourself and taking that step into the light to find who you are called to be. You can’t just sit back in the shadows and wait for your answers to find you. There are a few people in my life who really should hear this message, and this song is a great way to communicate it to somebody who can be open to it.

  37. Joelle May 20, 2008 7:54 am

I really liked the song “Into the Light” It really shows that we have to keep looking for God and finding the answers to our prayers. Not only did this song give me a good message about God, but it was also a song that I would probably listen to just because I want to. After listening to that song, it is easier to think of God always being there for me.

  38. Elizabeth May 20, 2008 7:54 am

The song was very pretty. It had a good positive message. It also could be interpreted in a number of different ways. I felt the song shows how all of us feel at one time or another when we are struggling with something. It is important to know that there is something out there that is greater than us all.

  39. Val May 20, 2008 7:55 am

  46. Cory Paquette May 20, 2008 7:57 am

I enjoyed listening to the song “Into the Light” and found it very inspiring. My favorite lyrics of the song are where it says “The shadows cannot conceal what the heart wants to heal”. I think this means that if one wants to come into the light, the darkness can never win.

God bless you as you pray and reflect on all that God calls you to be at this time in your life and beyond! Peace and all good.

  48. Alice A. Craig May 25, 2008 4:39 pm

I felt, “Into the Light” spoke to the better half of myself. It is so easy to find things wrong in yourself and the world. We often find ourselves complaining and getting discouraged, when we should be trying to change what’s wrong and being thankful for what is already right. “Into the Light” opens our eyes and hearts to the positive things in life we overlook. True wisdom and inspiration leading to motivation coming from a lovely voice. Most songs I either like the music or the lyrics, but in “Into the Light” both compliment eachother. The music and lyrics create a peaceful harmony.

    Thank you :)

  49. Sister Julie Ann May 26, 2008 10:01 am

Alice, I like your exposing us all to the strong positive enlightening message and melody of this song, but more so your reminding us that true goodness is found in each of us. Peace and all good.

  50. Vanessa May 30, 2008 9:40 pm

I found the song spiritually uplifting and beautiful.

  51. Sister Julie Ann May 31, 2008 6:43 am

Vanessa, I can’t help but think today as Deacon Dan Schuster (a relative of some of our Franciscan Sisters) is ordained in Green Bay, WI, that this song would inspire him as well. Some of us are blessed to be there to witness this call from God. Continue to seek beauty in the world around you. Peace and all good.

  52. Terri June 16, 2008 10:35 pm

This song has a meaningful message, especially to me right now. The lyrics “Try not to be too impatient. Go easy on yourself” are just the words I needed to hear. I think worrying about things can take you to a dark place. “Come into the light” made me realize I need to offer my stress to God, to lighten my load, and to find peace.
