Franciscan Sisters Honor the Unique Service of Priests

Everything that [Saint Francis] said to [the brothers] in word, however, he would show them in deed with eagerness and affection. He used to revere prelates and priests of the holy Church, and honored the elderly, the noble, and the wealthy. Moreover, he intimately loved the poor, suffering deeply with them, and he showed himself subject to all…he wanted priests who handle the tremendous and greatest sacraments to be honored uniquely…. Like the Seraphic Francis, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity foster reverence to priests and deacons who generously serve God and neighbor. During this season of ordination anniversaries, the Sisters remember these servants who are and have served with the Congregation in meeting the needs of the current time with vitality, adaptability, and dedication.
Seminarians also receive supportive prayer and personal communications throughout their years of study. Father Dan Schuster, grand nephew of Sister Virginette Schuster, and cousin of Sister Carol Mathe and Sister Barbara Mathe, presided at the 7:05 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. Eucharistic Liturgies today at the Motherhouse in gratitude for the community’s prayers during his preparation for the priesthood. Father Dan was ordained on May 31, 2008 at St. Francis Cathedral, Green Bay. Do you have any unique words of affirmation and encouragement for these men of God?

I am thrilled that Fr. Dan Schuster was able to preside at liturgies at the Motherhouse. I first met (Fr.) Dan as a college student when he was working in our LifeTeen program here at St. Raphael, Oshkosh. He was dynamic and full of energy for the Gospel. Sounds like that has not changed.
Consider this an open invitation to visit St. Raphael Parish for a LifeTeen Mass in Fall and see what great energy is generated by the Holy Spirit.
Special congratulations to Fr. Dan and to all who prayerfully supported his journey to ordination.

I just wanted to say how proud I am of Fr. Dan and what a joy it was to be able to attend his Ordination in Green Bay and his First Mass in Oshkosh last weekend. What a blessing for our family and for the Church as he has so much to give. Coincidently, Sister Barbara Mathe was the last vocation from our parish of St. Mary’s in Oshkosh (now Most Blessed Sacrament) and now Fr. Dan takes that honor. To think that the newest vocation is still within our family.

Congratulations, Father Dan. I am so grateful you have remained faithful to your call and became a priest. I’m sure you will serve Him with all your heart. I have seen you at our Motherhouse, and you seem to radiate joy. At Mass I pray for many intentions. Now I realize I should also be praying for the priest who is celebrating the Liturgy. May God continue to bless you and all priests.
