Franciscan Sister Chiara

Sister Chiara LaValley, OSF, professes her vows for the first time as a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity, Manitowoc, WI.

Yes, Sister Chiara LaValley professed the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity  June 6, 2010. During the 2 p.m. Eucharistic Liturgy, Sister Chiara not only publicly voiced her desire to follow Christ, but she also received our Community’s Rule and Constitutions.  Sister Chiara now joyfully wears a black veil symbolizing the completion of her Novitiate and the beginning of her journey as a professed member in our congregation.

Diocese of Green Bay Bishop Robert Banks prayed this prayer for God’s grace  for Sister Chiara:

Lord, look upon this Religious who wishes to imitate your Son more closely by professing the Evangelical Counsels in the presence of Your Church today. In Your love grant that her way of life may bring glory to Your name and further Your loving plan of redemption. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Three of us just returned this afternoon from the Benedictine Center in Schuyler, NE after a Retreat given by a monk on the Beatitudes. There were 21 Sisters from various Orders. It was HEAVENLY!     You looked so radiant that day. No bride could have looked finer in all her wedding finery. Your comment on how you meant forever when you took your vows for one year brought back my exact feeling on June 14, 1967 when I took my first vows.     Sr. Chiara, I'm so happy for you!! You probably thought I fell off the face of the earth. I must thank you for your Christmas cards and your profession of vows announcement. We've been praying for you all along. I've been meaning to write a letter but, oh, I need to find the time.

    Anna is doing quite well. She skipped a grade (half of 3rd and half of 4th). She's still a little squirt but very bright. Pray for her, too. She's been talking seriously about becoming a religious sister. Funny, just that one year as a catechist at Holy Name has left such an impression on all of us!

    Kudos to my friend, Corrie Ann, to make me search for you on this website. She mentioned on her Facebook profile about a Sr. Chiara joining one of the CYE high school expedition. Could it be you?
