Vows, Liturgy and Vocations Important to Franciscan Community

Ever wonder what consecrated women religious talk about when they get together? Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity talk about vows of chastity, poverty and obedience, liturgy and vocations. Truthfully, this Summer’s 2011 Communty Meeting confirms conversation of this deeper kind.

Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity General Administration gave presentations on the vows of chasity, poverty and obedience on July 15-16, 2011 at their Motherhouse in Manitowoc, WI.

Here’s a sketch of  the morning and afternoon dialogue:

  • Liturgical Changes

Franciscan Sister Pamela Biehl led a session to deepen understanding of the Sacred Liturgy while looking to the implementation of  the revised Roman Missal. Her presentation was practical, pointed to the Scriptural richness of the changes and challenged us to pass on to others what we learned.

  • Vocations

Our Vocation Team connected our Community efforts to Pope Benedict’s message on “Truth, Proclamation and Authenticity of Life in the Digital Age” while being grateful for each Sisters’ participation and continued efforts. Sensitive to God’s initiative in a young woman’s vocation, Mark Kolter, Kolter Creative, mapped out ways he is assisting us in vocation strategies that are bearing fruit.

  • Vows

Sister Mariadele Jacobs, Sister Adrianna Schouten refreshed everyone on previous Community Meeting presentations on vows of poverty and obedience filled with thoughtful Franciscan sources and Church documents. Click here to read a segment of Sister Patricia Linssen’s reflection on chasity.

Sister Louise Hembrecht, our Community Director, always closes our times together with a state of the Community address encouraging us all in our lives together.

So it is what it should be.  Our conversation stirs us into action, into charity, into becoming who we say we are: Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

The world needs you. God calls you. We invite you.
